It has still been cold so it seemed like a good day to make a pot of beef stew. I have homemade rolls in the freezer to go with it.
Also because it is still so cold we ordered a load of wood, two cord, which we will be working on to get in the basement.
I have decided on my next hand quilting project, the blue Freedom's Friends. Batting is ordered and I will get it basted as soon as it arrives.
I already had this backing fabric, I think it will work okay.
My first block for Barbara Brackman's sew along, Liberty's Birds is prepped, but then I was not sure about the background fabric. I order a different one and will decide which one to use when it gets here.
My quilting plans for the next few years include applique quilts for each of my children. My daughter's will be a twin size, while for both of my sons and their wives will be king sized. Needless to say I had to do some pattern adjusting for the king sized quilts, but I did get the first block for my son K's quilt prepped. I will be stitching on this block for my slow stitching. I am linking up with Kathy and the other slow stitchers HERE. I will be writing more details about these quilting plans in another post.
That is all for today, I hope you have wonderful plans for your weekend, Rebecca
Making 3 applique quilts is an ambitious plan but they'll be lovely! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you expect the cold to still be there but I'm sure you will be glad when it warms up - when does your snow usually melt? Your quilting plans sound good for the year
ReplyDeleteHeavy snow and moose tracks, that looks exciting.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have plenty of snow to last a few months! The latest snow I remember was in 1987, on April 3 or 4. It was a wet snow and I think we had 6" or so. My daughter in South Dakota sent a photo today of their snow, and I was remembering that four years ago we traveled to Canton, Ohio, where it snowed. We thought of it as an April Fool joke.
ReplyDeleteThis year, we have a few flowers blooming and lots of green near ground level.
Your beef stew looks delicious! So warming on a cold day.
How much of the 2 cords of wood will you use this winter? That's a lot of lifting, carrying, and going up and down steps! I suppose the saying that heating with wood warms you twice might be true.
Freedom's Friends is beautiful. I like the heart wreathes in the corners.
Your Liberty's Birds block is fun. I like the colors.
And I love the last block with the red flowers and green leaves. It looks so lush and full! Did you make the pattern, or is it from a sew-along, or...?
