Spencer Museum Sew Along Month 3

This was our block for April, it is called Pomegranate and Thistle. You can see Lori's blocks  HERE and Karen's HERE. Lori also has Dorothy's block on her blog.

I did add a little extra bit of cheddar to the Thistle portion.

All three completed blocks. I am thinking I may just do the four blocks like Lori.

????  I have a question for my fellow bloggers. I normally read and comment on blogs with my iPad, because I can use our AT&T 4g network it works pretty good. Lately though, I have not been able to comment on a lot of blogs. What I mean is, I can write a comment, but it will not publish. Has anyone else been having this problem? I have to use our desktop to leave a comment, which is a problem because our internet for our desktop is just a step up from dial up. Is it Blogger or my iPad?

I will leave you with this fun photo of our youngest son and family. They had a good time out enjoying our  recent snowfall. I am sure you have seen plenty of snowmen in your time, but for us this was special. Our snow up here is normally so dry it will not stick together well for building snowmen. Memories in the making!

Spring Snow & The Scrap Vortex

Winter Storm Warning issued April 22 at 1:24PM AKDT until April 24 at 4:00AM AKDT by NWS
.Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches are expected. * WHERE...Central Interior with the heaviest snow accumulations along the Elliott Highway * WHEN...6 PM today to 4 AM Wednesday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Look for significant reductions in visibility at times. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected. This will make travel very difficult or impossible.

We awoke to this this morning! About 5" of snow, I hope it does stay around long.

Now on to quilty things. I bet you thought my Scrap Vortex project was forgotten with all the other projects I have going, but it has been growing! The strips are about 73" and the total width is about 43". I have not sewn the strips together yet, I am waiting until I have more done. This top is a little like working on a jigsaw puzzle .

Look what just came in the mail! More fabric photos for the wedding quilt, I ordered 12 more. I think everything else will be put on hold until I get this top together.

Happy Quilting!

A Little Bit Done

I am almost done stitching my Spencer Museum block for this month. Here is a sneak peek.

I finished appliqueing the center circles on Japanese Flowers and have the center blocks sewn together. I hope to work on the borders today.

Below are blocks I made for the guild. Every year our local library has a silent auction in the Spring.  Our guild puts together a basket with quilt blocks and other quilting items for the auction. Personally I don't think I would use these blocks for a quilt, but they sure were easy.

I added to my Kaffe Fassett fabrics. It has amazed me, that in choosing fabrics for my Hospital Sketches blocks, that the least expected fabrics seem to work. I start out with an idea of what I think will work and what I want, and I am completely surprised at what I end up with. It has been a challenge and fun at the same time.

Added to my Civil War stash too.

We drove out to a local lake for our son, it is about 10 miles from our house. He wanted to know if the ice had melted. It is still frozen.

A brave soul out ice fishing!

I hope whatever you do today you will find joy and have time for some stitching! Rebecca

Hospital Sketches Virginia Coxcomb and Quilty 365

I finished block two, Virginia Coxcomb, for  the Hospital Sketches BOM . I posted two photos with different lighting. It is so hard to get the fabric colors "just right". You can get more information about  Barbara Brackman's 2019 BOM HERE. She also has a Facebook page you can join HERE. The Facebook page is really fun because you get to see everyone's wonderful interpretations of each block.

I am busy prepping my next blocks for the Spencer Museum and Hospital Sketches quilts so with  no applique ready to stitch, I had time for some hand quilting on my Spring Bouquet quilt.

Another project I am stitching is Quilty 365. This was a sew along hosted by Audrey of Quilty Folk back in 2016. You can read about it HERE. I participated, making leaf blocks. Later I was not really happy with the leaf blocks as they were, I am going to do something else with the leaves. I loved everyones circle blocks though, so started another Quilty 365 this January. So far I stitched a circle each day!

April Snow and Other Projects

It seems that my posts lately have focused on sew along projects. I have been working on other projects too. First up though, I guess that little bunny I posted a photo of last time, is smarter than I
thought. We woke up to 8" of snow this morning!

The temperature dropped down too, it warmed up to a whopping 30* this afternoon.

The wedding quilt has made a tiny bit of progress. I received the fabric photos I ordered. Laid out the blocks and decided I want more photos. So I am waiting on those.

I am working on a quilt for one of my adult granddaughters. Her favorite colors are blue and orange. I also have quilts on the list for another adult granddaughter and two adult grandsons. When these are done I will be "caught up".

The pattern is called Japanese Flowers by Nerida Richmond. I downloaded it from Cozy Project. Here is a link to their site, COSY PROJECT   They have lots of patterns and online classes.

Japanese Flowers by Nerida Richmond

I have all  the center flowers appliqued and just need to do the circle centers, then I can start working on the border flowers.

This is the pattern I am using for the second granddaughter's quilt. I have two jelly rolls ready to go.

For one grandson I will be making Bonnie Hunter's Smokey Mountain Stars quilt in blues and grays. I have not made a decision yet for the other grandson.

I have also been sewing  Angela"s  blocks for the RSC19 Tiny Tuesday Sampler. You can read more about it  HERE. I decided on my setting fabrics, white with a black print for the straight sets and black with a white print for the diagonal sets. I am not sure of the final lay out, just having fun making the blocks each week.

I have collecting black and white prints.

Spencer Museum Sew Along

Time to share our progress on the Spencer Museum quilt. This is the Flower Pot block, I really like this one. The vase looks almost black in the photo, but it is a dark brown. You can see Lori and Dorothy's beautiful blocks HERE and Karen's lovely block HERE.  I really enjoy sewing along with these wonderful quilters!

These are large blocks, I am cutting my backgrounds at 21" X 21"

Dark brown  vase.

Block one and two together.

I like my Block 2 much better than my Block 1. I might tweak it a little and mix up the green fabrics more.

No moose lately, but my DH snapped this photo of a rabbit. The snow is almost gone, early this year, but the rabbits are still white.
